The New Year is an exciting time when people run around sharing their resolutions. From personal fitness and reading more to spending quality time with loved ones, almost everyone recognizes the New Year as a time to make a fresh start.
As I consider the changes I would like to make this year, I had to remind myself to add taking better care of my home. Don’t get me wrong, my home is clean and my kids will attest to my Saturday to do lists; however, I must admit that I don’t pay as close attention to the details as I should.
Working for ServiceMaster, I’ve learned a great deal about what lurks in our carpets and mattresses and the importance of cleaning air and dryer vents, as well as ensuring that the outside of my home is free from debris that could serve as kindling should a fire happen. I’ve experienced a roof leak, as well as a dryer fire, both of which could have been prevented with proper care and maintenance.
Needless to say that this year, I have resolved to take better care of my home by following a maintenance checklist…seems simple enough right? You can find multiple checklists online which will serve as a great – and thorough – reminder for the items that I may unintentionally overlook.I will be adding carpet, upholstery and mattress cleaning to this list as well. ServiceMaster recommends having your carpets cleaned at least twice a year a as well as the upholstery and mattresses should be professionally cleaned at least once a year.
In starting this new checklist, I know that I will be taking extra steps in helping to keep my family healthy. Also, as an added bonus, I will be increasing the health and longevity of my home.
